End of Summer Beauty Rehab

If the sun, sand, and chlorine did a number on your skin, nails, and hair… Fantasia Salon & Hair Restoration Center has some first aid to get you back into shape.

Hair 911

When we think about summer sun damage, naturally we think of our skin. But your hair can also be exposed to the damaging rays of the sun, especially if you don’t protect it with a hat, or UV-protective products. Plus, let’s face it – we have more valuable things to do with our time in the summer than cater to our hair! We usually pull it back into a ponytail, or up on the head in a messy bun…and that leads to a lot of inattention, dullness, breakage, and those oh-so-annoying split ends.

Ask your hair stylist to give your summer hair a once-over: get a good trim to remove any breakage, and clean up those too dried-out ends. Treat yourself – and your hair! – to an intense hydrating hair mask. Fantasia recommends Moroccan Oil, or Surface Hair Care which offers different kinds of Hair Masks: Customized to your hair’s special needs. Each one repairs damaged hair, and offers a rich and creamy formula that improves hair texture, shine, and manageability (think less tangles!). A purifying treatment may also be needed to remove chlorine from the hair. A fresh color can also perk up hair that has faded from the sun.

The 3 R’s of Care for Your Hair System

If you wear a hair system –think about a 3 R’s check up come autumn… Refresh, Revitalize, and Renew. Ask your hair loss specialist to check your hair restoration system for damage from the sun and elements of summer. You may need to get your hair system professionally rejuvenated (Specialized treatment) to bring it back to life, or a simple color refresh may be all that is needed for to bring out the color once again. Your hair loss specialist can advise you on just what your hair system may need to leave summer behind and get ready for fall.

Skin Tune-Up

Even if you slather yourself in sunscreen every time you venture outside, you can still experience sunspots and discoloration. Make sure your sunscreen has an SPF of at least 30, reapply it often, and use a broad-spectrum formula that blocks both UVA and UVB rays.

A skin mask is a great place to start treating that summer skin. Fantasia recommends to clients, the Skinceuticals skincare line, advanced care backed by science. “Fantasia’s Aestheticians use a variety of Skinceuticals products to restore and revive your skin,” she says, including the Pyhto Corrective Mask, which soothes temporary skin reactivity, like sunburn, and Clarifying Clay Mask, that helps exfoliate the skin, reduce excess oil, and replenish moisture. Skinceuticals also offers a Hydrating Gel Mask that rehydrates the skin, leaving it smooth and supple.

For skin that may be compromised by chemotherapy or radiation, Fantasia offers a special line of skincare products from Lindi Skin. Lindi Skin was designed and tested by a team of oncologists working closely with a team of dermatologists. Whether you’re dealing with sensitive or damaged skin, or just want luxurious skincare, Lindi Skin is clinically proven to safely and gently treat “over-dry” skin, while minimizing any allergens.

Nail Rehab

My stylist asked me the other day if I wanted to make an appointment for a manicure – noting that I had no nails to speak of, after a summer of swimming and gardening. Too much sun, chlorine, and constantly sticking my hands into dirt without wearing my gardening gloves, had taken their toll and I stressed that there may be no coming back. “Chlorine is very drying and irritating,” says OPI Educator, Marni, “Going from wet to dry can lead to moisture loss.” and recommends moisturizing your nails and cuticles with a nutrient rich cream, oil, or emollient. “Once your cuticles get damaged, your nails can become weaker and weaker, leading to splits and breaks.” Summer nails should be treated to a protective base coat just for sensitive nails. Apply the moisturizing cream to your cuticles at night, and top with cotton gloves to maximize the hydration.

Fantasia offers a full range of OPI products to treat your summer nails, including Ridge Filler, Natural Base Coat, and Natural Nail Strengthener. The OPI Avojuice and Avoplex lines include an Exfoliating Cuticle Treatment, a Revitalizing Hand & Body Scrub, and Cuticle Oil to Go.
